Sharjah is proud of its roots, heritage and unique values, for which the Emirate has earned numerous Arab and international titles, including being crowned the Cultural Capital of the Arab World by UNESCO in 1998, the Capital of Islamic Culture by the OIC in 2014, the world’s first Children-Friendly City in 2015, and the World Book Capital by UNESCO in 2019.
